Choices, Choices, Choices! Roberta's Blog

The last few weekends I’ve run into a dilemma… and a good dilemma to have. Although the sheer number of venues with bands has decreased due to the winter weather… it seems that we’ve had a great deal of local bands playing all over the QC area – and in many cases, they were bands I haven’t seen yet. So, what is a girl to do when there are three venues in one night with multiple band shows?

Mindful Metal - Kronos Resistor- Accretion of Absence

Sometimes it takes years to find the exact combination of musicians to make the perfect sound. Not only does it require musicians of a certain quality, but there must also be a meeting of the minds. Kronos Resistor has been a project in process for five years. But finally, the world is able to reap the sound that Billy Gardner Jr began to sow 5 years ago. On January 24, Kronos Resistor will release their first EP, Accretion of Absence during a release party at RIBCO.

Preparing for Opportunity - Scott E EP Release

“Luck is what happens when preparation and opportunity meet.” ~The Youth Companion.

What makes a successful musician? Some say hard work or talent, others say it is the luck of the draw. Scott E is enthusiastically hoping for a little of everything. In a conversation this week, Scott Eberhard described the effort going into building a brand for his music and his name. This Monmouth native is preparing to step into the QC music scene limelight with a self-produced EP and a release party in his hometown this Saturday.

HeavyWeight - True Collaboration

Once again, the Iowa Hardcore scene proves to be very much alive. With the release of a new EP, Muscatine-based HeavyWeight is set to rock the Quad Cities tonight along with Straight Up and The Hong Kong Sleepover.

The five piece Hardcore/Rock/Metal band blends musical backgrounds ranging from doom style rock/metal to the fast-paced hardcore style to produce a solid wall of sound. The five members: Matt Parrott, Jason Wieskamp, Sam Koester, Scott Moomey and Nathan Regennitter balance their love of music with full-time jobs and family.

Hot Music in January - Roberta's Blog

Happy New Year! There was live music in every nook and cranny of the Quad Cities this year for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Locations that are not typically live music venues brought us live music. And many regular venues kicked it up a notch for the occasion.

Last year I attended two of the largest, most boisterous NYE parties on the Iowa side of the river. While I stayed in Iowa again this year, I dialed it back some and checked out a couple of smaller celebrations.

December to Remember - Roberta's Blog

Though I have been doing my best to keep up at least a partial schedule these last few weeks, I need to admit to you all that it hasn’t been easy. With a family medical situation and a previous commitment to a fundraising event, I began to feel like the Dunkin’ Donuts guy… do you remember? He met himself coming and going. Thank goodness a couple of other photographers have also been heading out to shows and have been willing to share their photos with Local Scene Magazine.
