QC Band to Host Music Festival

An all-local music festival featuring QC area bands… is it possible? Yes, at least for the first year. Local jam band The Dawn is hosting their first music festival, and this inaugural event will be populated by all local bands.

Many of the regional music festivals include a local band or two, but the organizers of The Dawn and On festival feel that the QC jam music scene is strong enough to put on its own festival. The event will feature eight local bands and a performance by Bottoms Up Burlesque. It is planned as a one-day event on July 11 on the shore of the Rock River at Len Brown’s North Shore Inn, with no camping, but also no admission charge. That’s right, admission is free this year.

Following the mold of band hosted festivals such as Old Shoe’s “Shoe Fest” in Manketo, IL and Euforquestra’s “Camp Euphoria” near Iowa City, this event will be the first of its kind in the Quad Cities.

Festival organizer Mike Mathews is enthusiastic about the event. “The QC live music scene is as strong as I’ve seen it in years and The Dawn is one of the bands that has garnered quite a following,” said Mathews. “The time is right for them to put on a festival of their own.”

The Dawn are no strangers to live music festivals having performed at past events such as River Roots Live, Phases of the Moon and most recently Summer Camp in Chillicothe, IL.

While plans are already in the works to bring regional touring acts to next year’s festival, this year’s lineup is composed of Quad Cities performers and will be free to the public.

“Obviously we are working with a limited budget as its our first year and we are thrilled with the lineup of excellent bands and such a great venue,” said Mathews. “Everyone just wants to be a part of it and that’s a very cool thing.”

There is also hope to expand the event in future years to include camping and a later schedule. If you plan to come to this year’s event, bring a little extra cash for merchandise or to donate to help raise funds for a bigger festival next year. Plan to purchase your beverages. Food will be available from Rollin Smoke Barbeque.
