7:00-8:30 Toronzo Cannon

Toronzo Cannon may seem like a new name to some, but in reality he’s been playing the Chicago Blues music circuit for over 15 years, building up a name for himself from sideman to bandleader. His first record was self-released, followed by a two critically acclaimed albums on Chicago’s famous Delmark label, and his newest release, The Chicago Way, was released earlier this year on Alligator Records, and has been receiving rave reviews. As most Chicago Blues artists’ stories start out, Toronzo’s tale includes cutting his teeth with some of the best player’s around, working nights and weekends after his day shift as a CTA bus driver in order to sharpen his skills as a guitar player and win over new fans as each week passes. He spends his vacation time traveling overseas to tour and play festivals, and jots down lyrics and song ideas at red lights on his bus route. A true representation of hard work and determination, Toronzo’s story is really only just beginning. With recent performances from the Grolsch Blues Festival in Germany to the Chicago Blues Festival in his home state, Toronzo is making his name known all over the globe, charming audiences with his stories, guitar licks, and a laugh that will guarantee to make you smile.
