For those who don’t know, I’ve been volunteering at Codfish Hollow, providing the venue with photos (and sometimes video) for 5 years or so. I pitch in with other things when I can, but that’s my primary purpose there.

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock, Quad-Cities Style

Sweatstock Music Festival – two days, two stages, over 100 local musicians, featuring tributes to key Woodstock performances, as well as local original music.

The All Sweat Productions group has been putting on tributes to bands and re-enacting albums from the past since 2016. Past shows include tributes to The Beatles’ “Abbey Road”, Prince’s “Purple Rain”, and The Band’s “Last Waltz”. Their goal has been to grow the local music community while bringing musicians together over a shared passion. And then along came Woodstock’s 50th Anniversary.

Subatlantic Celebrates Record Release

This Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16th, Subatlantic is throwing themselves a party. There are two fathers in the band, but this party is for all the members, friends, and supporters, and for how hard they worked together at creating a new record. Subatlantic’s album release party will take place at Rozz Tox in Rock Island, where they will throw an all-ages, free show to thank the Quad Cities and everyone who worked so hard on their new record: Villains.

Record Release Tour Stops at Bishop Hill

Nebraska based songwriter, Evan Bartels will make a stop on a tour to release his latest record “Promised Land” on Sunday, April 28th at 7PM at Bishop Hill Creative Commons, located at 309 N. Bishop Hill St, Bishop Hill, IL. He will be joined by country artist Angela Meyer.

Big Things Happening at RME

Tyson Danner, new Executive Director of the RME

The River Music Experience has named Tyson Danner as its new Executive Director. The nonprofit music organization has provided educational programs and concerts in its downtown Davenport location since 2004. To honor 15 years of serving the music community of the Quad Cities, RME will kick off a 15 day fundraising campaign.

QC Beats Launches February 8th

DAVENPORT 1/17/19 - The first round of 15 artists were selected for the QC artist focused streaming platform, QC Beats, built by the Davenport Public Library, River Music Experience, & St. Ambrose University. To celebrate the official launch of the website on Friday, February 8th, there will be a party in the RME's Redstone Room starting at 7pm featuring some of the selected artists.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" Evokes Emotions

From the looks of my newsfeed the past couple of days, I would say a high percentage of the people I know found their way to a movie theater to catch Bohemian Rhapsody. For those of you who haven’t, I offer my reflections. I’ve read a few of the reviews. Most of them say this movie falls short of its goal. I am happy to report that I don’t feel that way. I think those critics might just misunderstand the intention of the movie.

River City Throwdown 2018

Sam Koester is gearing up for his 4th year of River City Throwdown, a day of music dedicated to the MCSA Domestic Violence Shelter. “The decision to get the shelter in involved came from both growing up in a house that had domestic violence in it and wanting to make it about something bigger than ourselves," says Koester. “Music can do amazing things and two of the best things it can do is help heal and bring people from all kinds of walks of life together.“
