Roberta's Blog - Anniversary blow-out and more

Last week was full of music, fun and a few surprises. Let me tell you…

Roberta's Blog: Busy Summer Days

There has been so much to do lately, what with the anniversary articles for the RME and The Muddy Waters plus all of the CD Releases that I’ve been a bit lax on writing about where I have been and what I have seen. I’ve been keeping up a pretty good pace these last weeks, including some open mic/jam sessions and a few weeknight shows. I have two memory cards full of photos from the last 2 weeks, and I still have photos on my hard drive to edit as well.

Roberta's Blog - River Music Experience - 10 Years of Support

The RME article has been the longest informational piece I have done to date. There was so much to write about – The River Music Experience is a multi-faceted organization. It isn’t just the Redstone Room, it isn’t just a museum. Heck it isn’t just a building! While gathering the information on this organization – getting the facts checked and checked again – my admiration for the staff just kept growing. The core staff – Kell, Dale, Benson and Carter- are some of the most dedicated and enthusiastic people I’ve ever met.

Four years and a goodbye?

Word has begun to spread that Hal and Kristy have listed The Muddy Waters for sale. While I wanted the article ( http://localscenemag.com/node/fouryearsMuddyWaters ) to be about the anniversary, I knew about the listing and also wanted to give them an opportunity to speak about it. The way Hal sees it, if you wanted to be in the bar business this is the place to be. They’re burned out on the bar business.

Quad City Roots 8-22-12

There were some new faces at the Thursday night jam session at The Muddy Waters – a funk trio with a cool sound and long-time local drummer Don O’Dette. Powerful artist Joshua “Slim” Kane dropped by to play and sing a few songs. And Randall Ketelson rocked the stage with his own style. This Thursday, The Muddy Waters has a special feature show, so there will be no Jam. But be sure to jam with us again next week.

Reggae and a Reunion 8-16-12

There was so much to do and see in the Quad-Cities this weekend that I couldn’t possibly take it all in. So… I didn’t even try. I had grand ideas of all the places I would go, but when it came down to it – even I have my limits. I took a swing through Ya Maka My Weekend Friday night, with a stop in the Village of East Davenport on the way home. Saturday it was a River Music Experience night, with an awesome reunion concert and an opening band that was on my “need to see” list.

The Pace Picks Up - Live Music in the QC

This week we saw the first of the outdoor shows - though it turned a bit chilly. There are a couple of new bands listed in the blog today and a return to jam sessions.

Heartfelt Thanks!

Where to begin? The benefit went extremely well for a first time endeavor and we have a little over $1100 for the charity. I want to thank all the musicians who took time out on a Saturday night to play without pay for the great cause of music education. The Davenport Schools Foundation's endowment provides a foundation in YOUNG children to encourage them to find joy in music. We're getting them started along a path - they are the next generation of musicians.

Whirlwind Tour - Roberta's Blog 4-17-14

The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind, to say the least. Between preparing for the Music Education FUNdraiser, attending shows, writing and keeping up with photo editing, my plate has been overflowing lately.
