Building New QC Music Connections: Month of Music

There's something big brewing in the Quad Cities tonight, and I'm not talking about beer!

About 50 people attended a first meeting of local entities interested in participating in a "Month of Music" in August of 2020. Some represented organizations that already have music in that month, some were considering joining in, others were curious. There were also a few like me who are about building our music scene and promoting music events.

Vote to Bring Free Concerts to Area

GALVA, Illinois—The Galva Arts Council is now in the running to bring a 10 week free, live music series to Wiley Park in Galva next summer for the third year in a row.

Sponsored by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national foundation dedicated to strengthening the social fabric of America through free live music, Galva hopes to qualify as one of the Top 25 finalists competing for a 2020 Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant Award.

For those who don’t know, I’ve been volunteering at Codfish Hollow, providing the venue with photos (and sometimes video) for 5 years or so. I pitch in with other things when I can, but that’s my primary purpose there.

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock, Quad-Cities Style

Sweatstock Music Festival – two days, two stages, over 100 local musicians, featuring tributes to key Woodstock performances, as well as local original music.

The All Sweat Productions group has been putting on tributes to bands and re-enacting albums from the past since 2016. Past shows include tributes to The Beatles’ “Abbey Road”, Prince’s “Purple Rain”, and The Band’s “Last Waltz”. Their goal has been to grow the local music community while bringing musicians together over a shared passion. And then along came Woodstock’s 50th Anniversary.

Subatlantic Celebrates Record Release

This Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16th, Subatlantic is throwing themselves a party. There are two fathers in the band, but this party is for all the members, friends, and supporters, and for how hard they worked together at creating a new record. Subatlantic’s album release party will take place at Rozz Tox in Rock Island, where they will throw an all-ages, free show to thank the Quad Cities and everyone who worked so hard on their new record: Villains.
